Joe, a sculptor himself, says the form of Pears is almost human. I am complimented. I found a psychological message in them. The two whole pears represent a perfect relationship, each person being an individual but uniting with the other as one harmonious unit. The whole pear and the halved pear made me think of a broken marriage - one person is whole, the other is broken yet still attached. Perhaps someone else reads the same into the forms?

The soapstone for these Pears was so lush they could only be a form ripe and full of life. When Greg and Maxine gave birth to Stuart I cast both sculptures in bronze in a series of four. Greg gave one of the whole Pears to the doctor who delivered Stuart and one to Dr. Klion who helped him over an illness.
